SCANDALS THAT DESTROY A KPOP GROUP'S CAREER

Currently the Korean entertainment world is heating up with many scandals accusations of bullying at school against several KPop idols such as Hyunjin Stray Kids, Soojin (G) I-IDLE, and Mingyu SEVENTEEN. Hyunjin Stray Kids was even forced to be on hiatus from all Stray Kids future activities because of his accusations of bullying in his pass.

However, it turns out that some idols have experienced scandals that were even worse than before, which ruined the group's reputation, even make it disbanded. Proven to be involved in a bullying scandal to extortion or any criminal activities, here are KPop idols  who have destroyed the reputation of their own group. Is there any of your favorite group?


1. Dahee ex GLAM




Glam was a South Korean girl group that debuted in 2012 under the management of Big Hit Music and Source Music. One of its member, Dahee was involved in an extortion scandal that made the group disband. In 2015, actor Lee Byung Hun came to the police station and admitted that he was extorted by Dahee and model Lee Ji Yeon for five billion US dollars. Being a fling, or "sex partner", make Dahee things that she is over the cloud and can get easy money toward successful actor, Lee Byung Hyun, who is actually in relationship with another actress (Married soon). Due to the availability of evidence submitted by actor Lee Byun Hun, Dahee was found guilty and sentenced to prison. As a result of the blackmail scandal that befell Da hee, the agency decide to disband GLAM entirely. (Well, they haven't get any breakthrough in their career)

Some parties say that GLAM has difficulty continuing their music promotion after one of its members was proven to be involved in a scandal. However, the other party said that GLAM was disbanded because their contracts with Big Hit Entertainment and Source Music ended so they decided to separate. Anyway, this is the main reason why Big hit decide to only debut boy group for several years after this scandal erupted. 

2. Black Swan Hyeme

The girl group member who was accused of fraud has been revealed to be Black Swan‘s Hyeme. A formal complaint was lodged against Hyeme by a man who claims that she had borrowed  ₩50,000,000 KRW ($44,800 USD) from him, only to cut off contact afterwards. Upon investigation, her identity was revealed by Dispatch. Mr “B” claims that the two met in 2018, and developed a close relationship. Hyeme debuted with the girl group Rania in 2015, and after many lineup changes, the group recently re-debuted as Black Swan on October 16. They had met up offline as well for food and drinks. Around 2019, she brought up the issue of money. According to KakaoTalk messages exchanged, Hyeme had asked him to help solve some financial problems with regards to her mother.

With regards to the situation, Hyeme’s agency, DR Entertainment responded that she had indeed borrowed a sum of money and would be investigating more into the matter. Black Swan recently had a successful revamp and re-debut, including Senegalese member Fatou. Hyeme originally debuted in 2015 under Rania. Due to this scandal, the group hasn't make any comeback since 3 years ago.

3. Jimin AOA

Jimin's career officially ended after one of his colleagues, Mina, exposed the bullying scandal he had been doing for ten years since joining AOA. After Jimin's true nature was revealed, KNetz even flocked to reveal and reveal evidence of his involvement in Mina's bullying case. Mina explained that she even experienced depression and attempted suicide because of Jimin's mistreatment.  On July 5, 2020, Jimin finally decided to step down as AOA leader and stop being a KPop idol.

After Jimin was found guilty, AOA's reputation faded and they had a hard time continuing to promote music. Netizen blame the other members also, because they don't speak up or defense Mina. It breaks their trust on AOA, as they're not a group that they wanted to be.

4. Jiyoung

S # ARP is a group formed in 1998 by the parents of one of the members who were then very rich, Jiyoung. However, Jihye's joining as an S # ARP member turned out to be disliked by Jiyoung. Jiyoung bullies with his mother and girlfriend to corner Jihye.

There was even a rumor that Jiyoung was deliberately bribing his manager into telling lies about Jihye at the Press Conference. However, the S # ARP manager who knew the truth between Jiyoung and Jihye told the truth. S # ARP finally disbanded in 2002 due to a bullying scandal.

5. APRIL's Naeun


On February 28, 2021, someone claiming to be Hyunjoo's ex-APRIL younger brother revealed the bullying scandal committed by APRIL members to his brother. He wrote that Hyunjoo was forced to say the reason he left APRIL in 2016 because he wanted to focus on pursuing acting. Actually the main culprit isn't only Naeun but another member. Yet since Naeun is the most popular member of APRIL, she got targeted by netizen. Hyunjoo was bullied and She was so depressed that he intended to commit suicide.  Someone claiming to be Hyunjoo's high school friend also accused Naeun of stealing Hyunjoo's shoes and confessed to buying them.

On March 1, 2021, several people appeared who claimed to have experienced bullying by Naeun during elementary school. Naeun was even called a member of the bad boy gang at his school before. As a result of the scandal, Naeun's name was removed from the variety show Delicious Rendezvous and she canceled starring in KDrama Taxi Driver.

Not only that, after APRIL members except Chaekyung and Rachel were involved in a bullying case, now the group's reputation is on the verge of collapse. Even KNetz said that APRIL had no chance to continue promoting its music because of the bullying scandal that had befallen them. They accuse APRIL as a bully group who bully their own member. Even the agency who at first defend them is now on quiet.

6. Hyomin T-ARA

In 2012, the Korean entertainment world was shocked by the scandal of bullying by T-ARA members against one of its members, Hwayoung. This scandal began with Hyomin's Twitter upload, which allegedly insinuated Hwayoung, who canceled his appearance at Budokan because of an injury.

Even after Hyomin's upload, a line of evidence emerged showing that T-ARA members were really bullying Hwayoung. At that time, Hwayoung received support from KNetz to continue his career as a solo singer.

As a result of the bullying case against Hwayoung, T-ARA's popularity at the top eventually faded away and it was difficult to continue music promotions due to its bad image. But five years later, a former T-ARA staff member revealed that what Hwayoung went through was not entirely true.
