ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NTH ROOM CASE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, RAPE AND BLACKMAILED CASE

New reports state that the 'Nth Telegram Room' main perpetrator Joo Jin Mo (also known as Baksa) would case BTS fan cafe members and BJ's (internet streamers) to extort and use.

Nth Room refers to a group on encrypted messaging application Telegram where graphic videos of violent sex acts – many involving underage girls – were shared to more than 260,000 members, who had paid in cryptocurrency to join the group and access content in an attempt to remain anonymous.

The room where these videos were uploaded was called the Doctor’s room, and the operator was known as Baksa (Doctor). Members who entered the room were required to pay at least ₩250,000 KRW ($199.07 USD) and up to ₩1,550,000 million KRW ($1,234.20 USD) to watch the videos. There have been 74 victims identified by police so far, but they have yet to tell their stories to the public. But the woman I am about to interview has decided to tell the world her story. She decided to do the interview because she thought she should come forward and make it public. This ordeal happened to her when she was a minor, back in 2018. Let’s meet her now. Please understand that her voice is being modified.

The UN Committee on Child Rights has strongly recommended that South Korea take action in regard to the issue of online grooming last October after monitoring the seriousness of the situation. Seo hopes that a positive effect will take place due to new legislation and action taken against the perpetrators of sexual crimes, saying that there needs to be reflection on how women are treated in a wrong manner in order to address the continued sexual exploitation of children and females.

The Telegram Nth Room case has taken South Korea by storm, with Cho Joo Bin revealed as one of the main perpetrators. The specific details on what the girls were involved in the case are gruesome, and should not be read by those who may feel uncomfortable.

One of the victims, who was a minor at the time of her involvement in the case, spoke up on CBS radio show Kim Hyun Jung‘s News Show earlier today. She shared her entire story in a 13 minute long interview, from how she was tricked to what she wishes on Cho Joo Bin. Here is the entire interview.

The man is 24-year-old Cho Ju-bin, the alleged mastermind behind multiple chat rooms on Telegram that have reportedly been used to sexually exploit dozens of women and young girls.

The story, referred to as “Nth room,” which was the name of one of these chat rooms, has left the nation in shock. And even more shocking is how these chat rooms were uncovered.

Two female university students, who have dubbed themselves Team Flame, began investigating these chat rooms last July in order to enter an investigative journalism competition held by the Korea News Agency Commission.

According to Seo Seung Hee, the head of the Korean Cyber Sex Violence Response Center, stated that the Baksa would target women in there teens and twenties by going to idol fan cafes and manipulating victims into giving him revealing photos in which he would blackmail them with. This was a technique that Baksa used often, with many instances in which the victims didn't know their videos or photos were being traded on Telegram.

However, due to the low understanding of 'online grooming' in Korean culture and that it isn't a crime in Korea. Seo explained that if online grooming is not criminalized, the risk of sexual exploitation and victim-blaming would increase. Seo revealed that many of the sexually exploited victims would meet with lawyers and the lawyers would state it is the victim's fault for letting this happen. There are also cases of misunderstandings from online grooming where the perpetrators trick the victim into thinking that they're in a one-to-one relationship to obtain nude photos and videos that they will share in the Telegram chatrooms. Without proper legislation regarding online grooming, Seo insists it will be hard to fix the wrong misconceptions of sexual assault victims.

“Korea has been taking digital sex crimes so lightly,” said Kim, one of the team members. “We’ve been using words like molka [to describe illegally shot spy cam pornography] to diminish the meaning behind videos of sexual exploitation. It makes it look like a small problem and takes the essence away from it being a digital sexual exploitation crime. We hadn’t thought of digital sex crimes as major crimes, and that is evident in the language that we use. Now that we’ve realized it, we need to change.”

K-pop stars and other South Korean celebrities have taken to social media to voice their anger and urge the public to sign petitions aimed at revealing and punishing those involved in the “Nth Room” sex crimes scandal that has shaken the country. 2PM’s Junho, Exo members Baekhyun and Chanyeol, and Hyeri from Girl’s Day are among K-celebrities who have taken to Instagram over the scandal.

Initial data estimated a total of 260,000 IDs accessed these rooms, but police have narrowed this number down to what they assume are some 60,000 users, taking into consideration overlapping profiles.

The digital sex crime ring is not unprecedented in Korea, where spy cam pornography and online bullying are both major issues.

But the alleged brutality behind the Nth room, which police say saw victims being blackmailed into carving names in their skin and drinking from toilet bowls, has shocked the nation.
