IS BTS MERCH TOO EXPENSIVE?

Do you think BTS merch is too expensive?

Well, who doesn't know about BTS nowadays? Every Kpop fans must know about them, and people are crazy in love with them. No wonder that as money maker of Big hit, their merchandise is sold so expensive. But it spark a debate in the fandom.

Why are all the BTS merchandise super expensive?

In short: Supply and demand.

A merchandise is with an autograph is much more expensive than one without it. Because of it’s rarity, the prices tends to increase. Merchandises works the same way.

With BTS’s popularity, merchs are expensive. For one, because when there is the supply there will be demand. But they wouldn’t sell their products as if it is unlimited. Companies are pro-profit organisations. They do things to make a profit. With their popularity, people sell their items more expensive as they know that fans will purchase them. With the scarcity and jacked up prices people are still willing to pre-order or stakeout to buy. It’s a marketing tactic.

As a brand, BTS is very valuable. They're so influential that they reportedly bring about $3.6 billion to the South Korean economy. The band has the power to sell out products they endorse, so it's no wonder countless brands pay the members of BTS to be brand ambassadors.

But if it is always the case and should it be?

In January 3rd, the BTS member personally addressed the group's merch pricing controversy on Weverse saying, "I asked them to use quality material for pajamas but what is that price tag...I'm surprised too."

When the idols themselves feel it is a bit too expensive, then it is indeed expensive.

Some of the fans support the member's comments by saying:

"I can't believe he didn't know the final price of his own merch collection."

"Can BTS please not renew their contract after this one is up?"

"I honestly was so pissed off seeing the month-long merch release schedule lol. Stop milking the fans. Or if you want to do it, do it with their actual activities such as selling concert DVDs."

"RM says he doesn't know the price of his collection either."

"I hate how the label is making them act like show hosts on QVC smh"

"Lol, you can't blame it on members because the company is responsible for the final pricing decision."
