In a statement, Don Kang, Netflix’s vice president of content (Korea), said that viewing hours of the Korean shows of the streaming platform grew six-fold in 2021 compared to 2019.
For example, the K-drama series Squid Game has become the most popular Netflix show in 34 countries. In addition, The Silent Sea is included in the list of Top 10 shows for non-English content on Netflix. Kang said that Hellbound, which followed Squid Game last year, recorded 43.48 million viewing hours for its premiere.
Netflix Korea managed to bring some of their original content into the Netflix Top Show, which became the talk of netizens, ranging from Squid Game, Hellbound, and The Silent Sea to the ranks of content that entered the most watched non-English series.
“In an effort to continue the success of Korean storytelling, Netflix will release more than 25 Korean content this year. We will provide high-quality, Netflix-exclusive creative stories that meet viewers' demands," Netflix said on Thursday (29/01/2022).
Netflix released over 130 Korean titles from 2016 to 2021. In 2022, the American streaming platform is bringing in a gamut of shows and movies, expanding is library of K-content.

Of the twenty-five Korean Netflix original content in 2022, some of them have been completed and ready to air, such as the zombie-themed drama All of Us Are Dead, which will air on January 28. Netflix Korea will also adapt one of the famous Spanish series Money Heist with the same title Money Heist Korea: Joint Economic Area.
Then there is Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, a remake of Netflix’s acclaimed Spanish series Money Heist. It is one of the most anticipated shows in Korean entertainment.
Among the upcoming Netflix Korean films are action blockbuster Seoul Vibe, which stars the brilliant Yoo Ah-in of Hellboy fame, and romantic drama 20th Century Girl, starring Kim You-jung — one of the finest actresses in South Korea
Netflix Korea will also work with Ji Chang Wook, Choi Sung Eun and Hwang In Yeop who will play a role in the drama The Sound of Magic. Then there will also be Queen of the Scene, Remarriage and Desires, Glitch, and Suriname. Apart from that, there will also be other original content that will be announced by the Netflix Korea team which we need to look forward to.
