NETFLIX SINGLES INFERNO SIMILAR SHOW AND HOW IS THE CAST NOW?

As Korean reality series Single's Inferno came to an end last weekend, perhaps one question lingering in fans' minds would be whether any of the cast members have coupled up in real life OR what's next to watch after this show? I want another Dating variety show to spend my weekend.

Single inferno, eight-episode Netflix reality-dating show, brought a cast of attractive singles to a deserted island and had them face off for opportunities to escape to a luxury hotel for better accommodations and one-on-one dates. It became the first South Korean reality show to ever make it into Netflix’s top-ten list of TV shows watched globally.

Contestant Ji-a describes herself in two words: “Cute and sexy“. As Song Ji-a entered the group, the show’s narrators said: “They can’t take their eyes off her. Song Ji-a said that physical attraction is important to her and she’s into tall guys. She added that personality is important as well as how much money someone has.

Perceived as one of the more underrated contestants of the show, An Yea-won had caught the eye of another contestant Kim Jun-sik. In fact, the two had actually successfully coupled together and got to spend time alone in 'paradise' on one of the episodes. Although almost all the female contestants were interested in the hunky Hyun-seung, Yea-won appeared to be the girl who stood out the most to him, as he described her as his "ideal type" in the sixth episode. But the guy doesn't choose the girl in the end. he producers also went to the observers a lot, which was a sign of not a lot of dramatic movement on the first day. But it’ll be interested if things will pick up as the relationships get established. Footage is broken up frequently by panelists, who pick apart conversations and analyze body language for clues. Fans of Song Ji-a from Single’s Inferno can catch her making a cameo in Friends, a Heart Signal spinoff that features contestants from previous seasons and expands its focus to include platonic relationships.

Single inferno isn't without scandal or controversies. Back then, people critics that the contestants and mc panel too much to compliment a while or pale skin. According to the Cultural Heritage Administration, the history of Koreans’ preference for “white skin” dates back thousands of years. In the folk tale “Chunhyangjeon,” protagonist Chunhyang’s love interest Mongryong puts on makeup to make his face look whiter before meeting her, indicating that white skin was preferred as early as in the 17th century. While people of European origin are often described as white, including in modern Korea, records show that the Far East Asians did not perceive them as having white skin. During the Yuan Dynasty -- founded by the Mongolians and occupied most of what is China -- the Westerners were called “saekmok-in,” which is directly translated into “people of colored eyes” but in practice meant “assorted categories.” It mostly referred to the Semu people, from Central and Western Asia. In a relatively homogenous society that Korea was for a long time, commenting on someone’s skin color may not have been a sensitive racial issue, setting aside the question of lookism. But when presenting them to a global audience, creators should be more sensitive. Especially as Korea, too, has become more multicultural, the viewers argue.

Given the show’s popularity, we wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix brings a new group back to the beach for another season. But if you don’t want to wait, this particular flavor of dating show — where there’s subtle drama to be found even in small decisions, such as where people choose to sit at dinner.
