ANIMAL ABUSE IN THE SET OF KOREAN DRAMA
The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won” is a traditional epic sageuk about King Taejong, born Lee Bang Won, who helped his father overthrow the Goryeo Dynasty and establish the Joseon Dynasty. A traditional epic sageuk is a historical drama that typically involves a large budget and cast, a long-running storyline, and depictions of real historical events and figures.
Korean Animal Welfare Association reps shares that they are filing a complaint to KBS after seeing video of horse being tied & forced to fell couple of times filming for #TheKingofTearsLeeBangWon, as it deemed animal abuse. The filming was done on 2 Nov'21.
One from broadcast industry revealed that it's common for horses to die while doing stunts for filming and production team usually signed contract with horses rental under the clause that they won't charge if their horses die or injured while filming.
Following the news, reps of KBS #TheKingOfTearsLeeBangWon says they are currently confirming the details and preparing to release their position on the matter
BS shares that the filming of #TheKingOfTearsLeeBangWon scene that was complained by animal welfare was difficult & despite the effort from the prod team, the accident involving actor and horse couldn't be avoid. When the horse was checked after the accident, it was confirmed that the horse's condition was free from injury and the horse was returned to rental company, but as concerns rise, they recheck the horse's condition and unfortunately it is revealed that the horse has died 1 week after the accident KBS says that their reps feels great responsibility over this matter and deeply apologize for allowing this to happen.
Viewers raised concerns with the Korean Animal Welfare Association (KAWA) over a potential animal abuse issue in a scene that aired in “The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won. Due to this scandal, KBS decides not to air it for two weeks in their schedule time slot. The drama will be back after doing taking all the measure needed.
