FUN AND SURPRISING FACT ABOUT TWICE THAT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW

The original plan for SIXTEEN was for JYP Entertainment to debut a new 7-member girl group. When the results were out, Momo and Tzuyu wouldn’t have made the cut. Thanks to Tzuyu’s popularity, Park Jin Young announced she would be debuting with the group and he also brought back Momo because he thought she would be an indispensable part of the team. Sana, Mina, Tzuyu, and Momo all worked incredibly hard to adjust to life in Korea and become fluent in Korean.

Jihyo used to be the longest running trainee in the company. She trained for 10 years among the likes of 2PM and miss A. The company had first announced they were thinking of debuting a new girl group in 2013 since Wonder Girls were on an indefinite hiatus but those plans got pushed back to 2014. Thus, this is what made JYP debut another girlgroup, that soon named as TWICE. In Taiwan, Tzuyu is so popular that there was a whole set of questions dedicated to her.

Nayeon and JYP Entertainment were fated to be. When she was a little girl, she entered a modeling competition and was noticed and casted by the agency. Unfortunately, her mother refused to allow her to model and Nayeon was unable to begin training with the agency.

We might not have had Sana in the group if she hadn’t moved to Korea! Sana first came to South Korea as a trainee in 2012. When she was in middle school she was cast on the street but her parents weren’t so sure about the opportunity.

Nayeon had always been the ace card. Aside from her flying colors at the audition, she also won the Seoul Art College Dean’s Award and the Spris Star Award. She became a popular trainee with great potential to become a super idol. JYP Entertainment saw her as the gem she is and supported her so she could gain more experience in the K-Pop world even before she debuted. She appeared in GOT7‘s “Girls Girls Girls”, San E‘s “You Can’t Go”, and miss A‘s “Only You” music videos. Nayeon also modeled for several brands like Nintendo Wii’s Just Dance 2, Smart School Uniform, TN cosmetics, and many more. Viewers grew curious about her when she appeared as an aspiring idol-student in Dream High 2. Because of SIXTEEN, Now Nayeon is part of TWICE as one of the 9 members.

Jihyo revealed that she had no time to go on family trips when she was a trainee and has no memories from her school days. After school, she would go directly to the agency rather than hang out with friends. She revealed that, looking back, she envies her friends who were able to go out for meals and karaoke together. Like Jihyo, Chaeyoung said that she had missed out on school trips and similar excursions, due to her busy trainee schedule.
Nayeon, Jihyo, and Jeongyeon were originally all set to debut in a different JYP Entertainment girl group. The group was going to be called SIXMIX and when one of the girls dropped ou,t Sana stepped in as a replacement. SIXMIX was all set to debut in 2014, but the other members withdrew from the group, effectively canceling the whole plan. The girls were forced to wait a year to participate in SIXTEEN and the rest is history.

During TWICELAND – The Opening Nayeon and Jihyo both opened up about their struggles as trainees. Nayeon told fans that it hasn’t always been a happy journey for TWICE. While preparing for SIXTEEN, there were times when she would cry all day long while holding Jeongyeon’s hand. She would even cry while walking down the street at night because she had no idea how SIXTEEN would end for her and her friends.

Momo has always been an avid dancer. She learned how to dance at a studio since she was three years old. While practicing at the STEP OUT Dance Studio, located in Osaka, Japan, Momo came across the opportunity to appear in a Korean singer Lexy‘s “Ma People” music video. Momo revealed that she lost 7kg (15 lbs) in one week. She claims her company said that she absolutely must lose 7 kg in order to be able to go up on stage for their showcase. To achieve this rapid weight loss, Momo didn’t eat anything besides a single piece of ice during that one-week period. Momo confessed that when she lay down to sleep, she was afraid that she might not wake up in the morning and that terrible thought made her want to cry.

It was JYP Entertainment that discovered Momo through YouTube. A video of Momo’s dance performance was uploaded, which intrigued the agency’s casting team. Momo was contacted to audition. She tried out with her old sister, but passed by herself. She felt bad about being the only one to be selected, but after discussing things with her family, she decided to pursue her dream in Korea and began training with JYP Entertainment immediately.

Before any of them had officially made their debut some of the girls were already getting experience in other idols’ music videos. Chaeyoung and Tzuyu, along with another trainee, made an appearance in miss A‘s “Only You”.

During her travels with TWICE to Vietnam, Jeongyeon confessed that she once wanted to quit being a trainee because of the hardships she faced. The pressures she faced as a young trainee made her wonder if she should choose a different career path instead, such as working in a bakery.

TWICE are in the midst of their TWICELIGHTS tour, having played dates in Seoul, Bangkok and Manila so far. However, the band’s agency JYP Entertainment has confirmed that Mina will not be joining Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu for the remaining dates after suffering ‘extreme anxiety and insecurity’. JYP said in a statement: ‘Mina is currently struggling with sudden extreme anxiety and insecurity towards performing on stage. No exact diagnosis has been identified yet, and we are consulting with several medical professionals to verify the cause in detail. Currently, twice mina schedule has been cancelled.
