APRIL TRIED TO GIVE PUBLIC AN INSIGHT ABOUT THEIR BULLYING ACCUSATION
It was said that Naeun’s diary was from 2016 and contained a calendar with stickers over the birthdays’ of her loved ones as well as her schedules. The contact numbers of her family and manager were written on the back as the girls did not have cellphones then. Naeun also stepped up to clarify the issue regarding the portion of her diary mistakenly revealed by her older sister. She explained that her entire diary had been filled with complaints about Hyunjoo’s alleged lies and two-faced actions for the month of February 2016, however, she had also written about her difficulties and emotional struggles in it. She claims that the members apart from Jinsol were all undergoing psychological treatment for the stress caused by Hyunjoo.
The four members held an exclusive interview with Sports Kyunghyang to speak up about the current situation. They are all receiving psychiatric treatment and suffering from deep mental distress. They said, “Our time stopped on February 28. We’re the victims, not the perpetrators.
Though the April members alleged in their interview that only Hyunjoo had access to her cellphone, fans noticed other members holding their cellphones during Yena's middle school graduation in 2016. Chaewon also previously claimed the members did not use personal phones between 2015 and September of 2017 and that Hyunjoo began using a personal cellphone one day. As you can see below, the April members were photographed by fans using their phones during Yena's graduation, which took place in early 2016 shortly after the girl group's debut in August of 2015.
The agency was considerate of Hyunjoo who found dorm life difficult and allowed her to use her cell phone, as well as let her promote while going back and forth from her own home. However, we had it hard as Hyunjoo on the other hand, had cornered us as criminals. During the preparations for “Tinkerbell” around February to April 2016, Hyunjoo had made us out to be the perpetrators and things got serious, so we too were as tortured about it and we thought about making extreme choices every day. The APRIL members furthered claimed that similar happenings had also occurred and that Hyunjoo had always made the members out to be criminals. APRIL claimed that Hyunjoo once accused Yena and Jinsol of tripping her and hitting her in the practice rooms, but it was not found on the CCTV. She then supposedly changed her statement to that it happened in front of the washrooms, but similarly, no CCTV footage was found. Another incident involving their clothes also happened.
The members shared why they agreed to do this interview. They said, “The misunderstanding seemed to grow further with only the agency’s official statement and our individual posts. In addition, we got so angry when we saw Hyunjoo write, ‘I will forgive you if you admit your wrongdoings and try to make them right.’ We’ve never done anything wrong or made a mistake to Hyunjoo. APRIL has grown with the concept of ‘clean idols’ for seven years. There were some things we didn’t want to reveal, but many people wanted us to share evidence. Now, we want to show everything.”
In a previous interview in August of 2017, the April members stated they had lived without cellphones for over 2 years. Though it's possible they were not using their own personal cellphones, netizens are saying the decorations and accessories suggest the April members were using their own phones.
The APRIL members said that they would also suggest to Hyunjoo that they should eat together, but she would respond that she doesn’t want to. “She then went to the agency and said, ‘They went to eat without me.’ Lies like this continued repeating, and we were again summoned and scolded. We later got so stressed that we said, ‘Let’s buy a voice recorder.’”
“For Hyunjoo’s birthday in February 2016, before she left the group, we organized a birthday party for her. We didn’t film this video for a show. It’s a real video from the birthday party. We turned off the lights and had a surprise party for her, and Hyunjoo was really happy when she was blowing out the candles. If she was really bullied and we had really bullied her, we would not have held a birthday party so happily.”
Fans concluded that as the event was public to media outlets, it's impossible to judge whether the members were all getting along at the time.
