JANG GEUN SUK MOTHER AND TAX EVASION

 The Seoul Central District Court sentence Jang Geun Suk's mother to a suspended prison sentence of two and a half years with a four-year probation period along with a fine of 3 billion KRW. Tree J Company, run by Jang Geun Suk's mother, was indicted on charges of violating the Tax Offense Act under the bookkeeping regulations and fined 1.5 billion KRW (approximately 1.36 million USD).

The "hallyu" star dropped out of the popular tvN reality show "Three Meals a Day" early last year after reports accused him of underreporting his income earned in China, a transgression for which he had to pay billions of won (millions of dollars) in fines.

The 29-year-old says he's ready to come back and wants to start things on a clean slate. Jang will be returning with a soap opera role in the first half of 2016, which will also be his first work in South Korea in three years.

The court pointed out that "there is much room for criticism in light of the method of the crimes. The defendant evaded more than 1.8 billion KRW (1.63 million USD) of taxes without taking measures to report even after the tax investigation. We took into account the fact that the defendant has currently paid back all the taxes she evaded and has no history of being punished for the same type of crime."

Jang is known for having made generous donations to the victims of the 2011 Fukushima earthquake in Japan and the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He's also volunteered with his fans at a Seoul orphanage for years.

Jang Geun Suk's mother was put on trial on charges of evading a total of 1.8 billion KRW by withdrawing or using the income earned by her son from overseas activities and omitting the income from their tax reports. At the trial, Park Geun Suk's mother pleaded not guilty, claiming that she did not intentionally omit the tax reports and did not intend to evade taxes. However, the court didn't buy her argument and found her guilty of tax evasion.

Jang Geun Suk was aware of the serious problems concerning family management through the tax investigation of Tree J Company, so he decided to enlist and go independent at the same time. He then ended all of his business relationships with Tree J Company and was preparing to establish a new company with me (director Kim Byung Gun), who is in charge of management. He wanted to greet everyone through a new agency after his military discharge.

However, because of this incident, Jang Geun Suk is more shocked and devastated than anyone else. He was very disappointed with what his mother showed through her official duties, and he lost his trust in her as a family member because all of this was hidden. Jang Geun Suk will firmly hold her responsible for this, and his mother and Tree J Company will have to faithfully carry out the consequences and responsibilities of the case.

Meanwhile, Jang Geun Suk was known to be the only celebrity under Tree J Company. It has been reported that Jang Geun Suk became independent from the company after returning from his military service in 2018.
