5 NEGATIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW IF YOU WANT TO BE A KPOP IDOLS
The Kpop entertainment industry has indeed spread everywhere. Its influence is not only in the Asian region, but also has reached other continents. No wonder really, the thing is they offer quality entertainment and spoil the eyes. That's why there are so many fans, especially in Indonesia. Don't look for trouble with Kpop fans in Indonesia if you don't want to be bullied in bulk. But, behind the glitz of the K-pop entertainment world, there are some "dark" facts hidden from you. Curious?
1. They are poor in the debut era, some are probably in debt
Before Kpop stars have a song that was really a hit in the community, they won't get money from the work they've created, or from their appearance on the stage. They will stay with their group and survive in a simple way, from the costs provided by the agency.
One member of Girls' Generations said that he had to spend 11 years in a training camp before he could make his own money. Some don't even make money even though they already have song records.
2. Bad treatment from management
You may have heard the news about a Korean actress named Jang Ja-yeon who died in her apartment due to suicide. He allegedly committed suicide due to depression after being made a sex slave by his teacher. The police found Jang's last note before he committed suicide. The note contained that he was forced to serve perverted men. If he dares to refuse, he will be tortured. For the sake of a career, he was forced to do this.
After the case became a scene, the police stormed the agency office where Jang worked. And it turns out, on the third floor of the building found a hidden sex room where the stars become sex slaves by the agency concerned. Even more shocking fact, two-thirds of the girls who jumped into the K-pop world have been forced to serve masher men in order to advance their careers. Very sad right?
3. Prospective stars are forced to undergo plastic surgery
Plastic surgery has indeed become very common in South Korea. And almost all K-pop stars must have had plastic surgery. But, not all do it of personal desire. Most are forced to undergo plastic surgery to support their careers.
4. Beginner idols often get bad treatment
According to a survey, a third of Kpop star candidates have experienced sexual harassment by their managers. If they refuse, then their careers will immediately dim right then. They certainly don't want that to happen right? Hence, the manager is very powerful over their lives. Another fact, 30% of women in the Kpop industry admit that they were once harassed and even made sex slaves by agency officials.
5. Haters might threat your safety, as well as stalkers
Being a public figure certainly will not be separated from haters. But, the horror of Kpop star haters is, they are not reluctant to commit murder. I was so happy with the lives of Korean celebrities. As experienced by a singer named Yunho who had to be rushed to the ER after one of his fans put poison into Yunho's drink.
6. There is long contract that looks like a slave contract
The K-pop star didn't sign a contract with the agency when they were already famous. Long before they became famous, a contract was agreed upon when they entered the training camp. Usually when I was a teenager. This contract contains an agreement that they are willing to spend time in the camp. So, you can't have a pleasant youth life. This training itself usually takes 10 to 13 years.
If desperate to cancel the contract, they must pay a fine three times the amount of investment the agency has paid. Inevitably, they continued to train despite being tortured.
The entertainment industry is indeed hard. Not only in Korea, but also in Indonesia or in Hollywood. But, it feels like Kpop industry is much darker than other entertainment industries. Hopefully with this you can better appreciate their struggle huh.
