ALL PLAGIARISM ACUSSATION IN KPOP IDOLS WORLD

 Just like a me too movement, there is a time when many Kpop group accuse to plagiarize something. Sometimes it's proven wrong, and in other case, it's proven true and the agency need to make clarification and apology, a follow up to remove the troublesome part. Here are several plagiarism acussation in Kpop world that you should know.


1. Twice's MV

JYP Entertainment has issued a statement relating to an artist's claim that the agency replicated one of his artworks in TWICE's "MORE&MORE" music video without credit or consent. Artist Davis McCarty shared a photo of his light-refracting archway art installation Pulse Portal, comparing it to the music video set, in a now deleted Facebook post. His artwork was created in 2018, while the music video was released on June 1, 2020. He deemed the music video installation to be a copyright infringement.

On June 3, a representative of JYP Entertainment issued an official press statement regarding the issues, as follows:

"This morning, we learned that a set item in the 'More & More' MV identically resembles another existing art piece; we have requested that the MV production company come to a mutual settlement through conversation with the original artist of this piece. As a company which produces creative content for our artists, JYP plans on preparing preventative systems in order to ensure that such an issue does not happen again." 

2. CRAVITY's MV

Starship Entertainment’s rookie group CRAVITY’s ‘Break All The Rules’ has been a perfect opener for a rookie group. Unfortunately, there have been many fans who have been saying that there were elements that were much too similar to SM Entertainment’s EXO. Some fans pointed out that the logo of EXO and the font and symbol of CRAVITY’s ‘Break All The Rules’ looked too similar. In addition, other fans have said that even the scenes from the MV’s too seemed to be the same, just with minor differences.

3. Twice's clothes

On Wednesday, February 10, Dahyun and Chaeyoung released a parody of Rain and Park Jin Young's duet, Switch to Me for the Melody Project video. In no time, a BLACKPINK stylist uploaded a screenshot of the music video and wrote something that referred to Dahyun's outfit. The modern hanbok (traditional Korean dress) in the How You Like That music video is a stylist's custom design for BLACKPINK that is not commercially made.

On Thursday, February 11th, JYP Entertainment explained that the hanbok being worn was the property purchased from the hanbok company. "We don't realize the similarities. We sincerely apologize for this." They have also apologized directly to the designer and promised that incidents like this would not happen again.

4. AESPA's debut

SM Entertainment’s rookie girl group has had more than one plagiarism accusations surrounding them. For starters, a lot of fans and netizens have raised concern stating that the MV for ‘Black Mamba’ was similar to K/DA’s ‘POP/STARS’, both utilizing scenes inside a subway and also the creepy looking monster face. 5. RED VELVET LOGO and MV

SM Entertainment's newest group, Red Velvet has faced plagiarism allegations over their logo. Red Velvet's music video for Happiness has been criticized for being disrespectful after some imagery that was deemed racist and offensive to the Japanese people. Now the logo is too similar with a logo of indie duo that has been claimed in 2013. Aside that Red Velvet also has come under fire as netizens have accused the group of plagiarizing their comeback track’s music video “Ice Cream Cake.”

On March 17th, 8:12 PM KST, a blogger posted a side-by-side comparison of scenes from Red Velvet’s new music video “Ice Cream Cake” and B1A4’s “Solo Day” on a B1A4 fan blog. Well it's similar because both of the MV are recorded in the same location.

6. STAYC MV

STAYC has been a girl group that accumulated quite a lot of hype in a relatively short period of time. But like some of the other rookie debuts, the group’s MV for ’So Bad’ received a lot of plagiarism accusations from netizens. Netizens have stated that the MV had a lot of similarities with Miley Cyrus’s ‘Midnight SkySTAYC’s production team shortly released a statement of apology. Legend Film, allegedly the agency responsible for producing the MV for ‘So Bad’ stated that they were ashamed and devastated over the issue and that they take full responsibility for it.
