MAMAMOO and AKMU both agreed to sign with their old agency (YG and RBW)

Although many idols change their agency after their first initial contract of 5 to 7 years ended, some decide to continue with their old company. Being loyal might be good in the long term although they might have several disappointment toward their current agency and have a lot of offer from other agency, yet most of the time it didn't work out that good in their new company, unless they change their career (idols turn acting). The special bond that created within the group might also influence their decision, since they want the name of the group to be known and got bigger, which isn't the case if they left the agency, as they can no longer use the name. That's probably the reason why both AKMU and Mamamoo decide to renew their contract. AKMU will be continuing their careers with YG entertainment despite many of their fans ask them to leave the agency when they can. On January 26, YG Entertainment announced that with the expiration of their seven year contracts, AKMU has renewed with the company for five more years.

Lee Chanhyuk commented, “Honestly, it is difficult to find a company that thinks of the artists first as much as YG does. We did not experience trouble or conflicting opinions a single time over the past seven years, and the company led our young selves well while reliably supporting us in the path we are taking.” Lee Suhyun added, “We did not ever consider leaving YG.” AKMU is a South Korean sibling duo consisting of Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun who debuted under YG Entertainment in April 2014 with studio album Play after winning SBS' K-pop Star 2.

It might be the same as Mamamoo. On January 22, RBW stated, “We are currently discussing contract renewals with the MAMAMOO members based on trust in each other. Although there is still a lot of time left on their current contracts, we have been discussing since early on as we wanted to give time to carefully decide for the members who have faithfully been with us for a long time. However, there were speculating rumors and many inquiries, so we decided to officially reveal the current status.

Currently, Solar and Moonbyul have finished renewing with faith and anticipation, and we are also positively exchanging opinions with Wheein and Hwasa. As the members all have great affection and pride for MAMAMOO, we anticipate positive results.”

As it might be the second time they resign the contract, I hope all of Mamamoo members can stay the same.

YG Entertainment stated, “The AKMU members are still young, but they are very thoughtful and mature. All of the YG staff members were really touched at the news of AKMU’s long-term contract renewal. As we have once again confirmed are trust in each other, YG will provide further support for AKMU and do our best for them to grow well as artists.”

Do you like about this news or do you hope that your favorite kpop idols group left their agency. After the news of the group's contract renewal, netizens have gathered to an online community to share what they think about AKMU renewing their contracts with YG Entertainment. They commented, "I heard YG Entertainment treats their artists really well, I guess it's true," "I'm glad the two like the company," "This was really unexpected," "I was boycotting all YG Entertainment music and I was hoping to listen to AKMU, I guess I can't," "I don't care since the two are happy with the company but I don't think I'll listen to their songs," "They should've signed with another company," "The company just has a bad image because of the previous CEO, but the company is pretty good," "YG did treat AKMU really well," and "YG does let their artist do things they want, the company respects their music style and helps them make the music they want to."
