KPOP GROUP NEW TRENDS, 4 MEMBERS IS ENOUGH AND WHY IT MATTERS

Every year, Korean entertainment agencies always debut new K-pop groups that fans have been waiting for. When debuting a group, usually the total number of members is the thing that fans are most curious about. As you might already know, as Kpop lovers, we got a lot of Kpop group with a lot of members, for eg seventeen, NCT, Exo, Wanna one, X1, IZONE, Loona, super junior and many more. It's like there is no exact template how a producer create their group. Of course having a lot of members will give more opportunity to nail a fandom, as they have much diverse characters or personality to gauge everyone interest. There are agencies that debut groups with many members, but there are also those with quite a few members. Sometimes, less is MORE. So here is several Kpop group with only 4 members:

1. Mamamoo

Debuted in 2014 under the agency RBW Entertainment, girl group Mamamoo is also included in the favorite group of current kpop fans. The group officially debuted on June 18, 2014, with the single "Mr. Ambiguous".  Consisting of four members, namely Solar, Wheein, Hwasa, and Monbyul, the four of whom are known as a group that has powerful vocals.

We also know several role that is needed to fit in a group, and the fact that all mamamoo members can sing, make them own several role, here it is:

Solar: Leader, Vocal (high), Visual

Wheein: Main Vocal, dance

Hwasa: Vocal, Face

Moonbyul: Rapper, dance

2. 2NE1

Debuted in 2009, YG Entertainment's girl group 2NE1 became one of the legendary groups in the KPop industry. As many people know that YG often to debut group with less members.  2ne1 is a South Korean Girl Music Group made up of  Bom, CL, Dara, and Minzy.  They managed to attract the attention of fans both inside and outside Korea because of their swag and badass image and appearance. The term of "GIRL CRUSH" might be popularize by them.

2NE1 has many hits such as I Am The Best, Comeback Home, Fire, and many more. Unfortunately in 2016 the agency confirmed that this group was disbanded and that currently the members are busy pursuing solo careers. In an interview from 17 January 2017, with Yonhap News Yang Hyun Suk talked about 2NE1's sudden disbandment: “When Gong Minzy moved to a different agency, I wanted to save 2NE1. What led to the decision to disband the group was the state of Park Bom's mental health.

3. Miss A

The members consist of Fei, Suzy, Jia and Min who debuted in 2010 through the song "Bad Girl Good Girl". During her career as a group, Miss A has released many title songs such as "Only You", "I Don't Need a Man", "Good-bye Baby" and others.

In 2017, Miss A decided to disband after previously their two members, Jia and Min, chose to end their contract first. The most popular member, Suzy, is a successful idols turn actress, with several hit drama where she took the main role. 

4. SISTAR

The group, consisting of Hyolin, Bora, Soyou, and Dasom, who are under Starship Entertainment, has the nickname Queen Of Summer because they always release albums every summer along with the summer concept attached to this group. They have sexy image who have a strong vocal line. Although SISTAR disband in 2017, but many of the members are still active in Korean entertainment. They released the last song entitled "Lonely".

5. BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK release many hits that are easy listening like "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du", "As If It's Your Last", "Playing With The Fire", "How You Like That" and many more. Another 4 member girl group from YG entertainment to replace their senior, 2ne1 as they're disbanded. Blackpink debuted in 2016, consists of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose. Having had a four-year career in the music industry, BLACKPINK has managed to carve many achievements and proud records both in Korea and internationally.

6. Stellar

Stellar is a kpop girl group that debuted in 2011 with the first line up of members consisting of Leeseul, Jeonyul, JoA, and Gayoung. Stellar itself attracted enough attention because of the controversy over their sexy yet vulgar group image, they drew a lot of criticism from netizens for being considered indecent. Maybe because of that in 2012 Leeseul and JoA chose to leave the group and were replaced by Minhee and Hyoeun. This group then disbanded in 2018 due to an expired contract.

7. Brown Eyed Girls

Brown Eyed Girl or abbreviated as B.E.G is one of the senior KPop groups who have worked for a dozen years and are still active today, the popularity they have achieved has successfully brought them to become the top Korean group. They're kinda a legendary idols group with more mature image, as they also have more older members. Only Gain who is actually quiet young, while the other members almost hit 30. The group consisting of Miryo, Narsha, JeA, and Gain made their debut in 2006 with the title track "Come Closer". Some of B.E.G's hits that you must play include "Abracadabra", "Sixth Sense", and "Recipe".

8. aespa

Aespa is SM newest girl group. The group consisting of Karina, Giselle, Ning Ning and Winter just made their debut on November 17, 2020 and managed to make many achievements including the MV "Black Mamba" which broke the record as the most watched KPop debut MV in the first 24 hours.  Debut with a unique concept, aespa has an avatar or virtual (digital) member where they can interact with each other.
