X1 Disbandment, is it the selfish desire of agency and CJ?

On January 22, fans of X1 protested in front of the CJ ENM building in the neighborhood of Sangam in Seoul. Approximately 1,000 fans took part in the protest. The three main demands made by fans against CJ ENM were:
1. Take responsibility for the damages received by X1 and X1’s fans
2. CJECM to announce the decision to create a new group by January 31, with members who want to continue
3. CJENM to bring set up another meeting with the heads of the X1 members’ agencies by February

ActuallyThere is a rumor (blind item) about X1 will disband since November last year.

CJ ENM and X1 had a meeting to talk about the group’s future.

On November 20, Joy News 24 reported that CJ ENM had a private meeting with the X1 members on November 15. This is the day it was announced that X1 would not be participating in the 2019 V Live Awards V HEARTBEAT, which they had been scheduled to attend.

According to the report, the CJ ENM staff asked the members about their thoughts on staying as a group, but the members each had different opinions and were unable to reach a decision.

Joy News 24 states that CJ ENM contacted each member’s agencies after the meeting and told them, “If the members want it, we will keep X1 as a team.”

A source from X1’s side confirmed to Joy News 24, “It is true that CJ ENM had a meeting with X1,” while a source from CJ ENM stated to MyDaily, “It is true that we met with the X1 members. It is also true that we are in contact with their agencies. Whether or not X1 will continue promoting will be decided on carefully after discussing with the members and related personnel.”

Due to this rumor, on November 20 KST: An official statement has been released regarding CJ ENM’s meeting with the X1 members.

This is a notice from Mnet.
This past [November] 15 (Friday), we had a meeting with the X1 members.
This meeting was not to pressure the members about group activities, and it was not a meeting to decide whether or not the group will be maintained.
Regarding whether X1 will promote or not, a careful decision will be made by collecting opinions and coming to a mutual agreement with the members, their agencies, and staff.

We express our sincere apologies for causing concern due to our program, and we ask for your consideration in order for speculative reports to not cause harm to the X1 members.

Yet in the end, X1 is disbanded on January early this year 2020.
Currently, Oneit all around the world still try to make X1 back again by redebuting under CJ ENM once again with new name. Several X1 members move fast and releasing their personal schedule, such as fan meeting, releasing new song, dancing performance, v app live and more. One member even casted in popular teenage drama "School 2020". Will Oneit wish for x1 to unite 11 again come true?

The report states that the reveal of the manipulation has sent people in the industry as well as idol trainees into a state of shock. The greatest positive aspect of the “Produce” series was initially seen as its platform for a “fair competition,” with social status or wealth not coming into play. The public became fascinated by this program in which dreams were said to come true through sheer hard work and passion, and they took part by voting for their favorites in the show. When it turned out the final lineup was determined not by viewers but by those behind the curtain, people realized it was actually an incredibly unfair program and that the nation had been scammed.

A source from the entertainment industry is quoted as saying, “This incident has crushed the hope that someone can debut as an idol through skill and talent alone. It’s completely a case of corruption in the hiring process.”

Another source from the broadcast industry stated, “I think it was an impossible fantasy to think that there would be something like a ‘fair contract’ in a slanted playing field that’s been created by a massive business.”

It’s also described how industry insiders say that starting from the year that the “Produce” series began, a “strange order of rank” emerged among idols. A music critic said, “There used to be a ranking in the idol world that separated those from the big three companies (SM, YG, JYP) and those from small and medium-sized companies. After 2016, the world began to be divided into those ‘From Produce’ and those ‘Not from Produce.'”

They went on to say, “So many idol trainees applied for the program that it was to the point that people said, ‘There’s no idol trainee with talent, skill, and good looks who doesn’t go on the ‘Produce’ series.’ Most of them were from small and medium-sized companies. It was very attractive to these people, who had been working so hard just for the goal of debuting, that they could debut right away if they were chosen as one of the final 11. There were also many trainees who wanted to go on the show because even if they didn’t make it into the top 11, they could get popular after gaining buzz through the show and use the popularity to plan their future careers as singers.”

Kim Do Heon states that while some agencies did not want to send their trainees to the show, they ended up “biting the bullet” due to Mnet’s powerful influence. An industry source said, “For entertainment agencies and trainees, the ‘Produce’ series seems to have been a drug hidden within candy.”
