HYBE BTS Bighit and MBC BEEF. What happened between them?

It's a public secret that MBC and bighit or now known as HYBE entertainment have a beef with each other. Starting from where Bighit/Hybe were still small company and as one of the big public broadcasting network in South Korea, MBC treats Bighit poorly. In those years, the mistreatment became bigger and it turns into a sour milk each passing years.

According to insider from entertainment industry Bighit weren't provided waiting room like other groups, so BTS did their makeup and everything in the hall & changed their outfit in restroom most of the time. Yet since they're still small back then, they're still accept any performance offer from MBC and participate in any MBC future shows. Since December 2019, the two sides have been involved in a cold war. In 2019, when BTS started to become big especially in the US, They decide to perform there and did not participate in MBC year end show. The seven-member group performed at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve event in Times Square, New York, United States. Due to this, MBC blocked any bighit artists and affiliates.

At first people think that MBC only blocked BTS. After that, various speculations arose among fans after MBC announced the line-up of Gayo Daejejeon, which did not include groups TXT and GFriend. As is known, TXT is under the same agency as BTS. Meanwhile, GFriend is an artist nurtured by Source Music, which has been acquired by Bighit since July 2019. TXT and Seventeen also didn't perform in MBC afterward, and other artists under bighit or hybe lable also follows the same path, which lead the conclusion of MBC banned any HYBE artists to perform.

The absence of BTS on "Music Core" has become the spotlight of South Korean netizens, even when BTS won over other artists with their comeback and made performances in other broadcasting network. An online article alleges that MBC abused its power over BTS in order not to appear on their music program. However, the television station had denied the rumors last year.

MBC also aired a news about BTS military exemption and turn this into scandal, narrated public opinion to think that BTS should not be provided exception in the bases of some awards, they even created some kind of poster to mock about BTS situation. This certainly invites a reaction from HYBE. Big Hit Label announced a concert titled 2021 New Year's Eve Live will be held on December 31, 2020 and can be watched live (offline) and online. 2021 New Year's Eve Live has become a conversation because it was held on the same day as the MBC Gayo Daejejeon program. After the news of the announcement of this concert, BigHit became a trending topic on Twitter on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Observant fans were made suspicious by the disappearance of BigHit artists from the pre-vote list for the Music Core program in the Mubeat application.

In other side, MBC recent new boygroup from their idols competing show wild idol, named as Tan, had something similar to BTS logo, provoke ARMY or BTS fans to criticize the similarity. Wild Idol is a survival show that takes the concept to the extreme by appearing in the wild. There are about 45 contestants who will be evaluated based on their physique to their skill level in order to get a chance to debut.

Then in the last episode on December 16, 2021 there were 7 people who successfully debuted with the boy group name T.A.N which stands for To All Nations. Although many fans can't wait for T.A.N to debut, there are also those who feel that the logo and group name are too similar to BTS. In addition, the name T.A.N itself reminds many people of the BTS character, TinyTan.

Keep in mind there is also a dispute when hybe tried to cast minju who is actually mbc favorite mc to debut under their new girl group, le sserafim. Since she was in difficult situation, at last she decides not to participate in another girl group and focus more in acting and solo activity.

In past history, there is similar situation between YG entertainment and cj enm or mnet. At that time all YG artist didn't participate in any mnet show. Yet, they fix their relationship and now are in a good term again with each other looking by the fact that mnet give bigbang special performances in their prestigious mama award.
