KPOP IDOLS AND THEIR CRIMINAL SENTENCE / JAIL TIME

Since Kpop has been generation for generation, no surprise that somehow as idols is human too, they make mistakes. Sometimes, they break the law and make them fell into trouble, just like us. Here are several  times idols get jail time in Kpop entertainment history.

1. Seungri

The exact year for final sentences hasn't been finalize, because there is still "some negotiation" for this. Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung-hyun, was indicted in January 2020 on multiple charges, including arranging illegal sexual services for business investors from Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong from 2015 to 2016. He was also convicted of embezzling funds from a Seoul nightclub he ran and violating laws prohibiting overseas gambling by betting heavily at foreign casinos from 2013 to 2017. He denied most of the charges. The cases blown up due to Burning sun scandal few years ago, and the trial is still in progress even in 2021. In 2019, he announced his departure from the group and retirement from the entertainment industry after being arrested on suspicion of supplying prostitutes to potential investors. In January, Seungri was additionally charged with special violence instigation in relation to an alleged 2015 incident.

The Defense Ministry said the former member of the boy group Big Bang was also fined 1.15 billion won ($989,000). He was taken into custody after the ruling by an army court in Yongin, near Seoul. Before his fall from grace, Seungri was one of the biggest stars in K-pop because of the success of Big Bang, which attracted huge followings in Asia and other parts of the world after its debut in 2006. Forbes magazine reported in 2016 that the group had made $44 million in pretax earnings the previous year. He is currently indicted for 3 years prison time.

2. KIM HANBIN, B.I
B.I, 24, whose real name is Kim Hanbin, attended his first trial at the Seoul Central District Court on Aug. 27 on charges of violating Korea’s Narcotics Control Act. His father also attended the trial. The first trial in the case of Kim Hanbin, aka B.I's, drug use was held on August 27 at Seoul Central District Court. At the hearing, the prosecution stated that the former member of iKON used marijuana thrice between March 2015 and April 2016. As evidence, the prosecution submitted KakaoTalk messages of B.I and his accomplices, and deposits and withdrawals related to LSD transactions.the prosecution demanded a sentence of 3 years in prison, as well as a fine of 1.5 million KRW (~ $1,300 USD), for the former idol on the following charges: three accounts of illegal marijuana usage, and one account of purchasing illegal LSD, back in 2016. Prosecution Requests 3-Year Prison Sentence For B.I Regarding Drug Case

3.  Jung Joon-young
The charges against Jung and Choi were first brought to light in March. The investigation initially centered around a different K-Pop idol, Seungri, the youngest member of boy band Big Bang. Seungri has not yet been sentenced for the charge against him, of calling prostitutes for a foreign businessman. Seungri, Jung, and Choi were connected to the crimes after the discovery of the group chat in which the videos were distributed. The Supreme Court on Thursday sentenced singers Jung Joon-young to five years in prison. Jung and Choi lost their appeals of the verdict handed down by the Seoul Central District Court last November. Explaining the decision to uphold the previous ruling, the court stated, “There was no violation of legal principles or misrepresentation of facts due to subjective reasoning or experience in the original ruling, and there was also no misconception of jurisprudence.”

4. Choi Jong-hoon

The Supreme Court on Thursday sentenced singers Choi Jong-hoon to two years and six months in prison for raping unconscious women. He lose his appeal. Three other defendants, one of whom is the older brother of the girl group Girls’ Generation’s Kwon Yu-ri, also lost their appeals and were found guilty of taking part in the sexual assaults with Jung and Choi. Their sentences ranged from an eight-month suspended sentence to a four-year prison term. During the initial trial, the two claimed that some of the encounters were consensual, but the court ruled in favor of the victims and sentenced Jung and Choi to six and five years in prison, respectively.
