KOREAN MODELS vs KPOP IDOLS TURN ACTOR part 2

Okay, let's talk about the acting skill between Kpop idols turn actor vs Korean models turn actor. It seems many decide to change their career, as being an actor might give you more stability without too much social pressure (the fans tend to more lenient about their private matters, eg relationship status). Check out All the TOP Korean models turn actor here. in part 1.

For this part 2, we will focus more to the idols. If we already know who is the model, now we're talking some Kpop idols who succeed to get their standing in Korean acting industry. Here are my list! Don't be surprise there are god tiers in some awkward actors here.

1. EXO DO
Who doesn't know about him? This member of exo, isn't only a top tier in singing skill, yet his acting skill is also superb! Do take a role as leading singer in Exo, one of top tier Kpop group from SM entertainment. If there isn't baekhyun or Chen, he could be the main vocal, easily for other boy group. His first successful role is as “It’s Okay, That’s Love” or a cold and lonely Crown Prince in “100 Days My Prince.”. His appearance in popular movie, along with the gods, also received a lot of praise from critics.

Now, his career is already prosper as producer already seen him as a lead /main actor.

2. Hello venus, Kwon Nara
Her first successful role that change Nara's career in acting industry is Doctor Prisoner, where she laid her first main role in high rating drama. She is used to be the main visual of the group, no wonder with that look and figure. She undercuts her angelic looks with a bit of bite in roles including Ji Chang Wook‘s cheating ex in “Suspicious Partner”. Although Hello venus is already disbanded officially after a long hiatus, I think we could still see kwon nara in screen. Her latest drama, itaewon class also received a high rating.

3. 2PM Junho
It comes from a senior Kpop group, 2PM. Although we know that many 2PM members have done a bit of acting, but Junho could deliver his role well, maybe in the same level with Ock Taecyeon. Non-fans who saw him playing gluttonous sociopath Seo Yool in the hit drama “Chief Kim” would be stunned to hear his super-cutesy Japanese comeback single “Ice Cream,” which followed just three months later. Every Junho role is different, from traumatized construction worker Kang Doo in “Just Between Lovers” to quick-witted lawyer Do Hyun in “Confession.”

4. 2PM Taecyeon & Chansung
Well, another 2pm members get this spot. Taecyeon and Chansung, the tall members of 2pm already nailed several roles in Korean drama and movie. They're pretty good with their role.

5. IU
When “Scarlet Heart: Goryeo” came out in 2016, it seemed like no one could forget that IU was an idol. The poor girl received a lot of flack from the general public for her performance as time-traveling heroine Hae Soo. Well, she has a lot of haters as well as fans to back her up. She was almost unrecognizable in critically acclaimed drama, “My Ahjussi,” where she played the tough, tight-lipped but achingly vulnerable Lee Ji An. Not to forget, her role as Jang Manweol in Hotel del luna give her a lot of new fans, and solidify her position in acting world as main actress.

6. ZE:A’s Im Siwan & Hyungsik

He’s proven he can take on any type of role, from a charmingly arrogant prince in “The King Loves” to a ruthlessly badass gangster in the movie “The Merciless.” Im Siwan’s most iconic role is still Jang Geu Rae in “Incomplete Life (Misaeng),” where he had us all rooting hard for him to overcome his painful daily office grind. It’s strange that someone so beautiful could be so relatable, but Siwan sells the hell out of it.  Although ZE:A is already disbanded, but we will surely see Im Siwan more in his future movie/drama.

While Hyung Sik is also happens to be an incredibly talented actor. We’re really going to miss the rebellious puppy vibes he brings to a lot of his roles. In “Hwarang,” “Suits” and “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” Hyung Sik throws out witty one-liners left, right, and center, adopting a devil-may-care persona. But underneath it all, there’s an air of vulnerability that grounds his characters and makes us want to hug them so hard. Plus this guy can do romance better than anyone, trust.

7. ASTRO Cha eunwo
With his angelic and almost perfect visual, he successfully steal everyone hearts. ASTRO's Cha Eunwoo played a main actor in Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung. His first main role is a webtoon based drama, Gangnam plastic beauty.

8. Park Jin-young GOT7
Jinyoung from Got7 made his debut as an actor in a drama called Dream High in 2012. Since then, he’s had roles in several other dramas. Recently in 2019, he landed a main role in the drama He is Psychometric that released on April 30th 2019. Here’s the cut-scene.

9. Apink’s Jung Eun Ji & Naeun
If it wasn’t for Eun Ji, would the “Reply” series ever have become such a monster hit? As a member of girl group Apink, nobody really expected Eun Ji to do such an amazing job, but she shoved her idol image to one side when she took on the role. Sung Shi Won is totally unafraid of pratfalls and wailing breakdowns but never becomes cartoonish, no matter how singsong her native Busan accent gets. Her members, Naeun also an idol turn actress. Although I might say that Eunji acting is more natural.

10. Seo In Guk
The insanely talented actor started out as a solo singer, and he still considers music to be just as important in his life as acting. He has a string of singles and albums to his name, including many self-composed songs. He even features on the OST of “Tomorrow With You,”. Guess who won the first season of Mnet’s singing contest, “Superstar K”? Seo In Guk himself! Seo In Guk as an extremely versatile actor first and foremost. One minute he’s all sunshine and smiles in “Shopping King Louie,” the next he’s twisted and tortured in “The Smile Has Left Your Eyes.”

11. Kim Myung-soo from infinite (L)
L is the nickname of Kim Myung-soo’s Infinite. He debuted his acting career in a Japanese drama called Jiu Keishicho Tokushuhan Sousagakari in 2011. Myung-soo’s first lead role was in a drama called The Day After We Broke Up. His career get sky rocketed after his role in emperor: the owner of the mask, continue with Angel last mission.

12. BTOB’s Yook Sungjae

ungjae is one of only a few younger idols who consistently receive praise for their acting performances. He channels his trademark cheeky charm into all his roles. Although a lot of us first met BTOB’s maknae as spoiled-but-sweet maybe-deity Deok Hwa in “Goblin.” Many others were already nursing Second Lead Syndrome after his irresistible turn as Tae Kwang in “Who Are You: School 2015.” You can always rely on Sungjae to bring depth and gravitas when he needs to.
