THE WORST KOREA AGENCY HAS DONE TO THEIR KPOP IDOLS OR ACTORS/ACTRESS
We often heard how bad a Korean entertainment agency can be, as they often mistreated their idols, giving unfair contract treatment and overwork them, but how bad is it? Here we will discuss several examples that is really happened in Korean entertainment industry. Let's get start!
PUT IDOLS INTO DUNGEON
The most popular agency that often do it to their wonderful artists are YG entertainment, just put a few names: Blackpink, Lee Hi, Winner and more. BLACKPINK's most recent comeback, Kill This Love, was released on April 4, 2019, making their hiatus more than a year long. YG Entertainment has announced that BLACKPINK will be delaying their highly-anticipated comeback until 2020 and fans are not happy about it.
“It has been taking a longer time because the singer plans to release an album containing numerous songs, instead of a single,” YG said. was the first member to go solo, releasing her first album “Solo” in November 2018. And since 2018, YG finally continue the solo of other Blackpink member this year in 2021, by releasing Rose's solo. In average, Blackpink only come back once in a year, for the most, it could take longer. If they treat their Rooster like that, no wonder another group that isn't really on focus for YG get even worst. Let's say Lee hi who actually got nothing, and even she did comeback, there is no promotion or variety show to boos her performance. It seems YG really lack of initiative to keep it going.
OVERWORK KPOP GROUP
There are instances where K-pop music companies have taken over the idols’ personal lives to the point that they are not allowed to date or even have political opinions so that the companies don’t get into scandals or lawsuits. Idols don’t know that the contracts that they sign include a permanent commitment with the company. Many idols start in the industry in their adolescence and go into training for 10 to 15 years before they become public. If they want to quit, the industry would demand an expensive fee or blackmail them by using footage of the idols’ sexual activities or other means and basically making them their slaves. The hours for idols is honestly shocking so it's little wonder they seem exhausted. Being an idol means having extremely busy schedules, and that usually results in few sleeping hours and lack of rest. They're barely expected to get much rest and you commonly see idols talk about, and even show, how long they work. i.e. filming an MV at around 2-3 AM then waking up early to do the same thing again the next day. Repeat for around 5-7 days. That also goes for the production crew as well. Also a shout out to the (good) managers dealing with an idol's schedule. Can't be easy at all.
You can see a lot of idols looks tired already, especially in the comeback date. Some of them even faint on stage since they can't handle it anymore. Some of idols who have fainted or injured on stage are: Krystal, Mamamoo wheein, Exo Tao, shinee onew, Kim janghoon, girls day hyeri, Dalshabet subin, mlaq seungho, Goo hara, vixx n, hyuna and many more
BLACK LIST
Under most contracts, trainees and K-pop idols are required to pay back their management agencies for the cost of singing and dancing lessons, their wardrobes and living costs, among other things. As a result, K-pop idols may not make large profits. Most of the profit went to the agency in the beginning year thus make the idols feel unfair treatment. Some of them decide not to continue their contract and want to cancelled it. When the idols do it, or have a fight with the agency, the agency often will try to block her/his access to entertainment industry. The agency will sabotage the idols who betrayed them by put them into blacklist for several big broadcast company, for eg: SNSD Jessica, Park Jay Beom, JYJ and many more.
STOLE THEIR GROUP NAME
There is a long 7 years contracts in average, and after that it's up to the idols freedom to choose whether they want to continue under the same agency or not. Most of the time, they eventually will continue the contract and resign, since if they didn't do it, it means the groups is disbanded unofficially. When the members are no longer under an agency, they can't use the group name. Let's name a few: Beast. All the members except 1 who is an outcast decide to continue as idols, but not under their old agency CUBE entertainment. Little did they know the agency already copyright it so they can't no longer say they're Beast anymore (although they're actually beast member). Thinking that it would take too much effort to fight back for the names, the members decide to redebut under new names: Highlight.
SUE THE IDOLS
When the idols tried to break their contract agreement in the middle before it expires, some agency will sue them and ask for huge amount of penalty. Eg: Wanna one member lai guan lin with his agency, CUBE entertainment. Or Sm entertainment vs the chinese exo members: LUHAN, TAO, KRIS.
BLACKMAILING
Managers Reportedly Blackmail Their Idols To Prevent Them From Breaking Contracts. If a music agency doesn't want to cut ties with an idol yet, they're reportedly not above blackmailing the person to compel them to stay. Managers were even known to film their idols' sexual activities and use the footage against them. One of real example is when actress han hyo joo decide to part ways with her pass agency. Since she is the only successful (money maker) talents from that small company, they threat her not to change agency. The first hearing was held on this day for three people who were responsible for attempting to blackmail Han Hyo Joo’s father, threatening to expose the actress’ personal photos if he didn’t pay them 400 million won (around $400,000).
The three defendants acknowledged their charges but stated, “However, the photos in question are meaningless and cannot be seen as a threat,” asking the court to change part of the charges. The defendants also asked for a private trial for their protection but the request was not accepted. Previously, Han Hyo Joo’s ex-manager went to her father, threatening to expose photos of her and her boyfriend if he didn’t pay up. Han Hyo Joo’s father proceeded to report the ex-manager along with his accomplices.
After investigations, Han Hyo Joo’s ex-manager was found to be plotting to extort Han Hyo Joo with her photos that he had on a digital camera.
BULLYING
Sadly enough, this was what the leader of a popular boy group once said to the fans. He mention this almost everywhere, on his IG live, twitter, fan meeting, fan sign and concert. He even diss his company on live show. But despite of this success that BAP got, Did u know they faced hardship during their journey (contract slave) till they can’t handle it anymore so they sue the company and went into hiatus. After hiatus things get harder as they need to build up their name again. We fans even boycott their concert to let them rest a bit. BAP Member were being tortured by the company as packed schedules up to 7 comeback in a year, world tour in each year and non stop promotion concert. They even force them to perform even when they were sick.
Surprisingly in 2014 they open up that the company didn’t pay em any cent for what they did. I mean bap profit at the time was about 1 million usd per month. In order to pay the lawsuit process, Yongguk sold his sneakers collection n doing part time work as newspaper boy secretly News broke that B.A.P had sent in a lawsuit to Seoul law offices on November 26th, requesting to cancel their contracts with their abusive current company TS Entertainment. The boys we adore and love has been using "slave contracts" to categorize their complaints and displeasure at how the club treated them, stating that the contract only benefited the company which is unfair for them.
They complained about the uneven distribution of incomes. I mean, the work and promotions are done by B.A.P themselves, why would TS do unevenly distributed their incomes?! Just thinking about this makes me mad. The company had reportedly profited nearly $10 million since our boys' debut, but the members only received $17,000 each within the three year interval. Divided over 40 months, this sum translated into roughly $500 a month. Over such a hard work, they only received 500 a month? How brutal.
Currently TS have been forwarded to prosecution on charges for failing stipends and violating the Labor Standart Act under korea government law. This action was taken by the ministry of employment and labor. If found guilty and couldn’t afford to payback all the artists, TS Entertainment will be ask to close down the business entity. Funny when this action was taken this year while the artist was suffered from the very beginning. Funny when bap sue TS back then in 2014 Most of so being called as fans abandoned them said that bap seek gain attention, bap didn’t thank TS after being popular and so on.
K-pop industries not only overwork their idols but they sexually abuse them as well. Managers or executives of the K-pop industry try to sexually assault them, especially the female K-pop idols. For example, Jang Suk-woo, an Open World Entertainment’s CEO and talent coach, took advantage of young artists by drugging and sexually assaulting them between November 2010 to March 2012. Sponsors have been known to do that as well if K-pop idols want more financial support. Either way, most K-pop idols don’t earn much because companies take away 90% from every show and not even selling records help them gain more earnings. On July 12, Addiction Entertainment released a statement on their Instagram revealing that Yellow Bee had officially disbanded. Addiction Entertainment further stated, "But with member B carrying on her rather slutty lifestyle, plus the other members being unable to come to an agreement, we’ve decided that the group cannot stay together." The statement was highly controversial and criticized on several news outlets for 'slut shaming'. Addiction Entertainment later edited the Instagram post to remove certain information and was left at "personal issues and differences between the company and members" as a reason. Despite this, Addiction Entertainment later deleted all posts from their Instagram.
A week after their disbandment, former member Ari took to her own Instagram account on July 31 and revealed that the members were subject to neglect, exploitation, sexual harassment and sexual assault by the company staff
