NMIXX RELEASE DEBUT MV AND GOT INTO PLAGIARISM CONTROVERSY
JYP Entertainment’s new girl group released their first single album “AD MARE” along with the music video for the title track. Unfortunately just few hours after the video published, NMIXX or JYP entertainment has come under fire for allegedly plagiarizing other groups in NMIXX’s debut music video “O.O”.
“O.O” is NMIXX’s own “MIXX POP” genre song that meshes Baile Funk and Teenage Pop Rock. The song express NMIXX’s confidence in surprising the world.
Many people begin to realize that 3 months ago JYP also accused plagiarized MONSTA X logo and now they're more disappointed toward JYP, since they plagiarized ATEEZ concept now for their new girl group debut.
While netizens mostly seem to agree that the members all show great talent and plenty of potential, some have pointed out that the “O.O” MV bears strong similarities to other videos that cannot be ignored
DIGIPEDI, the studio that produced “O.O,” is a studio that ATEEZ have worked with before, which could account for the similarities between the videos. However, as netizens have pointed out, DIGIPEDI did not produce ATEEZ’s “Illusion.”
If you look at the clarification, Moonyoung Lee, co-founder and executive producer of Digipedi, only shows the New Frontier: Declaration video from NMIXX, as he wasn't involved in that specific video. The same person actually posted the Debut Trailer (an entirely different video from the New Frontier: Declaration video) on his Instagram story. In fact, him and Soulbriz (a Digipedi director) follow NMIXX but not LOONA on IG. You can actually check it for Soulbriz yourself, Moonyoung Lee sadly privated his account.
It's not the first time for JYP to get accused for plagiarism. Before, JYP was already call out for copying Loona scene in some videos and their fans were saying that it's because they both work with digipedi until digipedi CEO come out and post on instagram that they were involve in some scenes who copied Loona.
Yet, in addition to issues with the alleged plagiarism in the video’s imagery, netizens have claimed that the group’s new genre of ‘MIXX POP’ isn’t exactly as new or original as JYP Entertainment claims it to be. While MIXX POP is supposedly innovative for combining songs of different genres into one experimental song, fans have pointed out that groups such as aespa have already done that.
Similarities in New Frontier: Declaration video can be explained by JYPE/ editor using extremely popular space imagery (found similar imagery on the first 3 pages ordered by popularity of a Shutterstock search when looking for 'space', one stock video seems to be the exact same one used in the NMIXX video)
So what do you think about this issue?
