Saddest Korean drama that you should watch (Sad Story)

Besides being famous for KPop, Korea also produces a lot of quality movie every year, even some of them got adapted to the Hollywood, for eg: parasite, sky castle, etc. Usually people avoid films that makes you cry or sad and prefer to watch films that can provoke laughter or have happy ending. Apparently there are many people who also prefer to watch emotional story and emphasis sadness.

For some people watching a movie with the theme of melodrama becomes a means to vent emotions that are hidden in the heart, sometime it's a process of healing and sad story is more remember than happy one. There are various collections of films all over the world that can stir up your feelings and are guaranteed to flood you with tears. Some of them are:

1. Ode To My Father (2014)

Airing in 2014, Ode To My Father was indeed a success at the Korean box office. The film follows the long life story of a man named Deok-Su who has gone through many things in his life. Set in the Japanese colonial era, when the Korean people migrated to save themselves from invading Deok Su's attack separated from his only younger brother when he carried him as he climbed to the deck of the ship.The separation caused deep pain. The most emotional part of it all was when he was finally able to meet his younger brother in his old age. Due to the hardships of post-colonial life, Deok Su did everything she could to protect her family despite the harsh conditions she had to escape from the most terrible events.

2. My Brilliant Life

My Brilliant Life revolves around the relationship between the awkward Dae-soo and Mi-ra, a beautiful girl with a dirty mouth. Because of a teenage accident, Mi-Ra was forced to conceive when she was 17 years old. Opposed by the family, the two chose to live their own lives as a married couple and quit school. But fate says otherwise, their first child who is very coveted, Ah-reum, born with a diagnosis of genetic disorders have experienced progeria, which makes her age 10 times older than normal. A few years later, Ah-reum is sixteen years old, but her body looks like an eighty-year-old grandfather. Ah-reum then writes a story of how her young parents fall in love, and hopes they will give her a gift on her seventeenth birthday.

3. One Way Trip (2015)

Tells the story of 4 best friends who travel, this film presents a plot that is difficult to guess. Before leaving to go to the military (conscription), Sang Woo (played by Suho) was invited to go on a trip for 2 days 2 nights but fate would say otherwise. Not yet realized their intention to have fun, in the middle of the road they caught a man who was beating his girlfriend.

The final part of this film will definitely make you cry because it is considered unfair. If you look closely, this film also criticizes the law in the community who often defend on the wrong side and full of injustice.

4. Cart (2014)

This film tells the story of a grandmother and her granddaughter (hyeji) who lives in the countryside where her grandson suddenly disappears in the market because of the crowd. Interval of 12 years later, Hyeji returned after a bitter and bad incident that happened to him and will affect the whole story. The emotional story of these two people will surely make the tears melt especially when they have to see the grandmother in pain plus Kim Go Eun's amazing acting.

This film is based on a true story, so don't be surprised if there are a lot of realistic scenes related to daily life. The sadness in this film lies in the injustice section and how they treat employees who are all women.

6. Hyung / My Annoying Brother (2016)
When you watch this film, you will definitely agree that the two main actors have strong chemistry as brother and sister. Jo Jung Suk, who plays the role of an older sister, is ridiculous but he really takes care of his blind younger brother and makes him able to enjoy the world properly.

7. Miracle In Cell No. 7 (2013)
Talking about the saddest Korean films, this film is a must in the list. Even though it can be categorized as a comedy drama, but you will surely flood with tears at the end of the story. The story takes place in prison and focuses on a father named Yong-Goo who is not only mentally handicapped, but also imprisoned and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.

The story then follows five inmates who are trying to ignite a miracle to help Yong-Goo reunite with his daughter. Father and son chemistry will surely make your eyes glaze over with their acting not only as genius but also emotional.

8. One Day (2017)

The film is fairly new, released in April 2017. This drama film tells the story of an insurance investigator who has just been widowed named Lee Kang-Soo who is working on a case about a woman named Mi-So who was in a coma due to a car accident.

One day, he decided to visit him in the hospital and find his soul while he was still physically unconscious. He asked for his help to find out the cause. Watch a movie and you will sympathize with sad stories when their stories open one by one.

9. The Preparation (2017)
As the title suggests, The Preparation tells the story of a seriously ill mother who prepares her 30-year-old son who has mental retardation by showing him how to survive without a mother. Although impressed by the low budget and very simple, this film was crowned as the most moving blue film. Lots of special stories that have not been touched between a mother and her son.

Many viewers claimed that the story was very relevant and reminded the mother of being very special even though it was often considered normal. Veteran actress Go Doo Shim and famous actor Kim Sung Kyun were highly praised for successfully portraying this heartbreaking story.
