KNOW MORE ABOUT NCT DREAM GRADUATION RULE THAT BROKE THE DREAMS
With deadline approaching, many NCTzen, fans of NCT Dream are asking SM entertainment to pull back their system and make NCT as a permanent unit. Let's talk more about the system that many fans of NCT are against it.
For the starter, if you don't know what NCT dream is, here's a quick trivia.
NCT is divided into sub-units - NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, NCT 2018 and soon to be NCT China (official name in-progress).
NCT U is a rotational unit as none of the members are permanent. Depending on the song, members that are thought to fit it best are chosen to sing it and are temporary.
Members: Taeil, Taeyong, Kun, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas, and Mark
NCT 127 is a permanent group meaning that there will be no lineup changes. They are called 127 because the longitude for Seoul is 127, meaning that from Seoul they will promote k-pop to the world.
Members: Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark, and Haechan
NCT Dream promotes having dreams as a teenager. All the members are underage and when they reach the legal age (19) they graduate out of the group. For example, We Go Up is Mark’s last song as a member of NCT Dream because he is now 19 and will graduate after this comeback.
Members: Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Chen Le, Jisung, Jaemin and Mark
WayV - (NCT China’s official name) will be another sub-unit that is debuting later in January 2019, focusin more in China. This sub-unit will be managed under SM Entertainment and Label V, a Chinese label.
NCT dream is originally a seven member, become six, unit. The oldest being Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung. It's not a fixed unit, this means that no member is always going to be in this unit for all of NCT and will leave the unit when a member reached certain age* (in Korean age system). NCT Dream has a graduation system where members have to leave once they are no longer teenagers.
By this, people realize that in NCT dream, there are Four out of six members in the group who will be turning 20 next year. Which mean on Dec 2019, the 4 members need to graduate from NCT Dream and left the group. Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, and Jaemin will be leaving the group in 2020, Chenle in 2021 and Jisung in 2022.
NCT Dream recently held their first solo concert as a unit from November 16-17 at the Jangchung Arena in Seoul. A portion during their concerts included time for the members to talk to their fans. According to NCTzens who went to the events, Jisung cried continuously as this could be his last concert with the members. The members expressed their sorrows as they cried during their concert.
Mark leaving makes both the members and the fans sad but how will it be when four members leave at the same time? Unless SM throws in trainees that have hopefully trained a lot and or good then NCT dream will just have Chenle and Jisung. Where will the members go? We know that Renjun and Chenle will be in the China unit but what about the others? This being Jisung, Jeno, and Jaemin. Mark and Haechan will be in 127 but these three aren't in a permanent unit. Sure SM could throw out a J unit but that'll be unnecessary and we have a lot of members with a J at the beginning of their name. Would SM make a new unit so these members could be active or not?
Fans are upset at SM Entertainment for not speaking up about the unit’s future, as member Haechan is also a part of another NCT subunit ‘NCT 127’. Members Jaemin, Jeno and Renjun are only a part of NCT Dream and are without a fixed group, so fans don't know how they will continue to promote next year, after they graduate.
Nctzens expressed their anger and sadness about the situation:
1. This is just wrong... Usually for normal idols, they get to promote several years and they can voluntarily retire on their own but they're just being thrown away like that? The kids aren't some joke either, and what will happen to the fans if you just throw away the singers like that? I don't know, I feel like everyone really likes NCT Dream? Isn't it the same as having a group you like stop being a group?
2. For whom is this system intended to be made for? As soon as you start liking a group, they all graduate, isn't this too much of a punishment to the fans?ㅠㅠ And what about those trainees? Why did you debut them for? Are they going back to their trainee life? I don't understand
3. I feel like AKB's system is way better thought than this... The Japanese celebrity industry is f*cked up but at least they're not forced to graduate... Of course, I'm not saying that everything is better there
4. What's the point of graduating if they have no fixed team? They won't be able to promote either. What's the point of dissecting a group that's doing well? Who's the one who thought of the "underage" concept, no one asked for it
5. I seriously don't understand what benefit there is to have a graduation system. You just can't build a strong core fandom with systems like that, so why do it...? And the whole NCT concept is already too blurred, so they probably wanted to follow that fluid concept and make them graduate, so wouldn't it make more sense if everyone can promote in every team once to make it fair... They have no countermeasures and they're just blindlessly making them graduate, I can't help but think they're being thrown away
6. I seriously don't understand what the hell is this rotation system, this system doesn't suit our country's thinking either. What's the point of creating uncertainty for those singers.... My heart hurts for them
7. They don't even get a fixed team out of it yet they're being forced to leave the group? This is f*cking strange, talk about playing with kids...
8. Mark was like that too with his last concert with the Dream and now the 00'ers are like this for their Dream concert too, why are they always making the kids feel sorry towards Dream and ending it just like that by making them cry their eyes out? There has to be a way to stop that, this is just too cruel
9. I went to the concert today and everyone around me was crying, I'm not even exaggerating... I was looking at the kids and I was so upsetㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
10. This is their first concert but has the vibes of a disbandment concert. This kind of system really doesn't suit Korea seriously..
What are your thoughts on the situation?
